Further Implications of Sitting Down Residency 15-20 March 2010 Concept & Installation: Petra Alankoja Choreography & Performance: Sarah Kate Gardiner PUNT WG Art Gallery Amsterdam NL www.puntwg.nl
Further Implications of Sitting Down is a movement piece investigating the relationships between daily objects, routine movements and body. Furniture objects are extensions of our body. Parts of a chair are being referred to as shoulder, arm, back, seat, knee, legs and feet. In a space, a chair can imply the potential of a sitter. It can serve as a stand-in for the body. Pictures of interiors imply stories just by furniture arrangement. Sitting down frees the mind for other occupations. Being present and noting the actual movements seem irrelevant in daily life. The movement research focuses on the mind’s interpretation of body postures. The dance piece offers a transformation in that awareness.
